Notion Mail shuts down on September 22, 2026. Your Gmail stays put. Export drafts, scheduled mail, snippets, and auto-label instructions by September 21.

Notion Mail is shutting down on September 22, 2026. That date comes from Notion’s own help center, not a rumor thread. The inbox app for web, desktop, and iOS goes away for every plan. Your email history does not.

Notion Mail was a Gmail front end. Received and sent mail already lives in Gmail. The work is saving the Notion-only layer before September 21, then choosing a client that still ships.

The dates that matter

• June 25, 2026: Notion opened export tools and announced the wind-down. TechCrunch covered the agent-first rationale.
• June 30, 2026: HIPAA-regulated organizations were told to leave earlier.
• September 21, 2026: last day to save anything that exists only in Notion Mail.
• September 22, 2026: the client stops. Unsaved Mail-only data is deleted.

If you are in a regulated environment, ask your admin. The general consumer date is still September 22.

What stays in Gmail

Notion Mail synced two ways with Gmail. Every message you received or sent through the app already exists in your Google account. After shutdown:

• Inbox, Sent, labels, and history stay in Gmail.
• Signing in to Gmail shows the same mail.
• A new client that talks to Gmail — Vithos, Superhuman, Mimestream, Apple Mail — sees that history on first sign-in.

There is no mailbox export for ordinary received mail. You do not “move” Gmail. You point a different app at it.

What you must export

Notion’s help page lists the Mail-only layer. Export it through the app or web before September 21:

• Drafts. Unsent drafts in Notion Mail do not live in Gmail until you migrate them.
• Scheduled emails. Anything queued to send after shutdown will not send if you leave it in Notion Mail.
• Snippets. Template text you built in the composer. Export the content if you still use it.
• Auto-label instructions. The rules that taught Notion how to file mail. Save them to a page if you want to recreate the behavior elsewhere.

Snippet file attachments are easy to miss. Notion says those files do not travel with the snippet export. Download them from Settings → Snippets.

What will not transfer

A few things cannot be moved to Gmail or another client:

• Custom views and the way you sorted the inbox.
• Email reminders set inside Notion Mail.
• The Notion Mail app itself — iOS, desktop, and web.

Existing synced email databases in Notion keep the messages already pulled in. After September 22 they stop receiving new mail, so those views freeze.

What stays in Notion

Notion is not turning off email as a Notion feature. Per the help center:

• The Gmail AI Connector keeps working.
• Mail blocks already on Notion pages stay.
• Agent mail tools that talk to Gmail keep running.

You can keep using Notion as a workspace and stop using Notion as an inbox. Those are different products now.

What to do this week

1. Open Notion Mail and run the export. Do drafts and scheduled sends first.
2. Confirm the same threads appear in Gmail.
3. Copy snippets and auto-label instructions somewhere you will actually look.
4. Pick a replacement. Start with the alternatives shortlist or the migration checklist.
